Worried, You May Have Asbestos In Your Home?
If you think your home may have asbestos, do not take matters into your own hands. ASbestos was thought of, as the new wonder product for over a hundred years. This was because it had so many uses and was fire retardant. So why not use it all over the house, right? People started noticing that mine workers were becoming seriously ill and dying. They thought it was just because of mining. Then families of the workers started falling ill and dying as well. Then it was realized that people in homes using this material were becoming ill and or dying. It was not until the late 1970's that it was no longer used, and people were warned about older homes with this construction.
Asbestos is very dangerous to handle. Stirring the particles, causes you to inhale them, which can be, and is deadly. If you suspect that you may have asbestos, hire a professional company to do an analysis. They wear protective gear to keep them from danger, should the asbestos crumble easily. Samples are very carefully taken and sent to a laboratory. They determine if it is friable or nonfriable. Friable means it can crumble easily, nonfriable does not. However nonfriable can become friable as well, but there may be a way to contain it.
If it is determined that in fact, you do have asbestos of either friable or nonfriable, a special contractor, which usually the same as the inspector will have to be hired. They will carefully remove all the asbestos, usually when homeowners are not present, to keep them from danger. It will also be disposed of properly, to keep others from harm, as well. Do yourself, and your family a favor. If you suspect you have asbestos, have it checked, immediately, and stay safe!
